WARSAW — Zimmer Biomet has announced plans to acquire a company specializing in robotics that will take its surgical abilities to a new level.

The Warsaw company has reached an agreement with Monogram Technologies of Austin, Texas, to acquire the company for roughly $177 million, according to a news release issued Monday.

Monogram’s semi- and fully-autonomous robotic technologies are expected to complement and expand Zimmer Biomet’s ROSA Robotics platform.

Zimmer Biomet said it expects the move will provide “a clear pathway to become the first and only company in orthopedics to offer a fully autonomous surgical robot.”
