SYRACUSE — The Indiana Department of Transportation announced on Thursday plans to repair a section of State Road 13 between North Webster and Syracuse that was damaged by extreme heat in recent days.
That portion of road south of Syracuse remained closed to through traffic on Wednesday as work crewed began removing the top layer of asphalt while state officials worked to develop a repoar plan.
Problems became apparent over the weekend as parts of the road turned into a slippery mess. A one-mile section was closed to through traffic beginning Monday.
On Thursday, the state announced plans to fix the situation.
Starting on or after June 27, crews will mill and repave S.R. 13 between Epworth Forest Road and Bayview Drive, according to a news release issued Thursday morning.
Work on the project is expected to be complete by the end of August. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
During construction, drivers should use the official detour of U.S. 30, State Road 15, and U.S. 6, or seek an alternate route. Local traffic will have access to S.R. 13 and traffic will be controlled by flaggers when necessary, the state news release said.
