WINONA LAKE — Looking for a way to honor and support veterans?
Three local entities, including Zimmer Biomet, are working together to host a 5K event that will honor veterans and benefit Magical Meadow.
The fundraiser happens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The orthopedic company’s veterans resource group helped launch the event last year.
Live Well Kosciusko’s Breathe Well coordinator, Peyton Oldham, said Zimmer Biomet’s event last year was for employees only, but reached out to Live Well this year in an effort to open it up to the community.
The “ZB Live Well Veterans 5K” is an opportunity for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to participate and directly support the Warriors Mount Up program at The Magical Meadows, which provides free equine-assisted services to veterans and first responders, according to a Zimmer Biomet web page.
All proceeds will benefit the horse riding therapy facility, which just opened a new dedicated indoor riding barn.
The event starts at 9 a.m. on Nov. 7 on the Winona Lake trails, with a starting near the park splash pad.
Several groups will have literature available, she said.
Prior to the announcement last week, the event had 21 registered to participate. Oldham said she’d be pleased to see that number reach 50 by race day.
