WARSAW — OrthoLazer’s ribbon cutting on Wednesday was both a homecoming for one of its executives and a celebration of the company’s growing effort to eliminate society’s reliance on opioids.

Wednesday’s ceremony drew a large crowd at its new headquarters and wellness center on Provident Drive across from Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital.

Rod Mayer

For OrthoLazer CEO Rod Mayer, it marked a return to the orthopedic capital where he spent much of his career in med tech, including the last few years during the maturation of Nextremity Solutions.

Mayer (pronounced like Myer) moved OrthoLazer’s headquarters from Rochester, New York, to Warsaw this summer while at the same time guiding the company’s expansion.

In addition to the new flagship wellness center that is part of its Warsaw headquarters, the company recently opened its 18th center with one in Sarasota, Florida, featuring its state-of-the-art FDA-approved laser system.

Mayer thanked his team, the community, and investors.

“I’m incredibly passionate about what we’re going to build across the United States,” Mayer said. “Our mission is to keep every body moving pain-free while championing their personal success.”

Scott Sigman, a longtime orthopedic surgeon and founder of the company, saw up close the deadly impact of opioids on his patients.

“Literally, OrthoLazer was born out of the concept of trying to develop a solution to the opioid crisis, and I would venture to guess that almost every single person in this room knows someone who was affected by the opioid crisis.”

Sigman talked about the science behind the laser which provides healing through the power of light.

“If you can shine the right wavelength of light into our cells, we can create a cellular-mediated response that eliminates pain, helps reduce inflammation and it actually is a healing process,” Sigmansaid.

Interest in the product continues to grow as the concept gains credibility.

“I get direct messages from doctors around the world who are interested in our technology and what we are doing,” Sigman said.

Company officials expressed excitement about being part of the community. Mayer said being headquartered in Warsaw allows the company to serve patients while also partnering with orthopedic leaders.

Sigman remarked about the existing hub of technology.

“Really quite remarkable — a city of 15,000 people — yet you really influence the world with the way orthopedic care is provided,” Sigman said.
