Two dead, one critical in Old Road 30 collision

WARSAW — Two people died and a third was critically injured in a Thanksgiving night accident north of Pierceton.

The head-on crash happened around 8:49 p.m. Thursday on Old Road 30 west of Brallier Road in eastern Kosciusko County, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash involved a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.

For reasons yet to be determined, the two vehicles collided head-on.

Manuel Apolinar Tlahuetl, 24, Warsaw, was driving the Hyundai and Heather M. Rice, 54, Columbia City, was driving the Chevrolet.

A passenger in the Equinox, Merle Ray Miller, 54, Ligonier, sustained internal injuries and was listed in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital.

Assisting at the scene were the Winona Lake Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department, Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, Lutheran ground and Air EMS, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Reichert & Knepp Wrecker Service.

The accident remains under investigation by the KSCO FACT team.
